A sustainable and ethical supermarket

Färm is a Belgian cooperative which brings producers and consumers closer by offering more than 5000 fair-trade, local and organic products in its supermarkets. Already operating 2 shops, Färm selected ncbham to develop supermarkets they planned on opening in the next two years. The first phase involved the simultaneous opening of three stores in Ixelles, Etterbeek and Louvain-La-Neuve.

Designing supermarkets was a first for us and we were eager to take on this triple challenge! Our starting point for the projects was Färm’s vision : we wanted the new shops to reflect the ethical and sustainable approach of the cooperative on every level.

Implementing a sustainable materiality was at the heart of our process with steel and reclaimed wood as the main elements . The signage applied directly on the steel shelves and walls helps eliminate unnecessary components.

We also worked closely with a light manufacturer, increasing the color rendering by 20% compared to classic supermarket lighting, with 100% LED equipped light system, keeping energy consumption as low as possible. The new outlets have been in operation for some time now and the customers feedbacks are very positive : the customer pathway effectively showcases the products in an enjoyable environment.
