JQ Specials – AG offices
Scope
The works at AG HQ in Brussels, on Boulevard Jacqmain, concluded this year with a revamp of the shared spaces, namely the entrance lobby and the restaurant on level -1.
Carried out as complementary missions to the already delivered office floors, these interventions extend to a total of 1200 m² surface and build on the same design language, ensuring a cohesive and continuous experience throughout the building.
JQ entrance lobby
The reception and waiting area of the AG HQ are set within one of the building’s most striking spaces, designed by Michael Graves. The lobby unfolds beneath a captivating telescopic ceiling, where stepped layers and repeated wooden openings create a rhythmic, sculptural effect.
In contrast to the ceiling, the polished stone floor - with beige tones and red-brown marble accents - grounds the space with clarity and order.
Our mission consisted primarily on furnishing the waiting area and designing the reception desk.
By introducing soft tones and inviting, rounded forms, we gently counterbalance the building’s stricter geometry. Carefully placed lamps add warmth and atmosphere, while refined furniture pieces subtly echo the ceiling above, reinforcing it as the space’s defining feature.
JQ resto
The renovation of the level -1 restaurant transforms a previously repetitive space into a more diverse and layered environment, offering different atmospheres and comfort levels for its 500-seat capacity. Within the constraints of the defined budget, the approach focuses on optimizing the existing space without extensive works, prioritising reuse, including around 350 Arne Jacobsen chairs and the existing tables.
Custom-made elements were selectively introduced to structure and define distinct zones, complemented by flexible, mobile furniture that supports multiple uses, from large communal tables to more intimate nooks, as well as informal meeting spaces and alcoves.
Acoustic panels and a varied lighting setup help define the atmosphere, subtly shifting between warm and cool tones depending on the setting.
The material palette stays consistent with the existing finishes, while a circular space lit from above becomes a clear focal point with its own identity. Deep blue accents introduce contrast and add richness to the warm base tones.
