Calm & Purity for a Brussels residence

The client’s brief for the renovation of this thirties Brussels house in Uccle was bold and simple: “we want you to create minimal looking interiors that convey a sense of calm and purity”.

For the façade, we preserved the style of the house, while slightly modifying the front in order to optimise the rhythm of the openings into the interior spaces. We started by opening up most spaces and by decomposing the existing staircase.

That created a feeling of fluidity and movement trough the thin floating stairs, it soon became the main architectural feature of the house. As light transcends through all the floors in a soft and fluid manner, the notion of space seems to expand in the main living areas, where a balanced composition of architecture and furniture blend in together.

Carefully crafting the right proportions and paying attention to every detail, particularly in the bespoke furniture and prime materiality, was capital in achieving the pure and coherent vocabulary the client was seeking.
